The digital marketing maturity assessment tool is intended to help businesses understand and improve their digital marketing capabilities. It entails comparing a company’s current digital marketing practices to a best-practices benchmark in order to identify areas for improvement and develop a strategy for achieving digital marketing success.
This assessment tool was created using insights from The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Google’s pivotal Asia-Pacific study, “Understanding the path to digital marketing maturity” which emphasized the significant benefits of advancing digital capabilities. The underlying BCG research identified four key levels of digital maturity—nascent, emerging, connected, and multi-moment—and our tool uses these defined stages, as well as best practices from the Google and BCG frameworks, to preliminarily assess your current digital marketing maturity.
Based on the Google Digital Maturity Model (BCG Framework).
Disclaimer: This is a simplified tool for a preliminary indication. A comprehensive assessment requires in-depth analysis.

First, assess your overall maturity level or stage; this will provide you with a clear benchmark for your current digital capabilities in comparison to the defined framework. Then, get into the details: the assessment will highlight your key strengths, where you excel, and areas for development or improvement. Pay close attention to any prioritized recommendations or suggested next steps, as they are designed to assist you in strategically advancing your digital marketing efforts and effectively bridging the gaps identified during your evaluation.
While valuable, a digital maturity assessment model may present a generalized view that doesn’t fully capture unique business specifics or rapidly evolving digital landscapes, potentially becoming a static snapshot. Its reliance on self-reported data can introduce bias, and it might oversimplify complex realities, leading to a gap between identifying areas for improvement and providing a detailed, actionable implementation plan. Furthermore, such models may focus on predefined metrics, possibly overlooking niche strategies, and an automated tool might lack the nuanced qualitative insights a human expert could offer.
We use this framework to develop actionable roadmaps that are directly connected to quantifiable results, acknowledging that an organization’s priorities and focus vary greatly based on its maturity level. This tactic has continuously shown promise in boosting support from stakeholders and directing businesses toward more impactful and integrated digital operations. To apply this framework to your own organization and gain these valuable insights, start with our comprehensive digital maturity audit.
